Why Don’t Businesses Socialize Information? They Should – Here’s Why

What was your first real job? Do you remember having the first-day-of-work new job jitters? I do. I had just moved to the Chicago suburbs from a small town and everything was new, exciting, and a bit scary.

I was pumped that I was going to be using my advertising degree to create powerful marketing messages. And then, reality set it in. Everyone in my office already knew each other. Everything was fast-paced, and I was expected to keep up or get left behind.

Employees want to fit in. They want to be “in the know.” They want to have value within your organization. When we start a new job, most us are left to our own devices to figure things out. Before the digital era, your manager may have plopped down a huge, printed company handbook and told you to read it. Unfortunately, in the current digital age, the onboarding process may not be much different than years past. Today, new employees sit at a computer and read potentially outdated materials and take uninspired quizzes to test their retention of the material.

Research shows that proper onboarding can go a long way to keeping new employees excited and engaged with their employer. 31% of employees have quit a job within the first six months, and the top reason was a poor onboarding experience.

What if you could quickly share relevant information, in real-time, across your entire organization?

So where does that leave new hires? They want to feel validated that they made the right decision to become a part of your team. They want to conform to the norms of the office, and the roles they should assume, so that they integrate into this new work group, or community. They want to feel like a valued member.

At the same time, your existing office setting has a social structure and an informal power structure. Established employees may have cliques that take breaks together. Different teams may only share valuable information with certain coworkers. C-suite leadership may have their own agendas. When you socialize information, you give your organization and your workers a sense of community, and encourage collaboration and shared ideas to help unite and connect your workforce.

The digital age is here. It’s time to socialize information that has historically been static and siloed within organizations and even in departments. By creating a community of collaboration, shared knowledge, and mutual respect, you give your employees a “single source of truth.” Everyone is on the same level playing field. You create value in breaking down barriers so that everyone has the same shared information. Keep in mind that 51% of employees are actively looking for a new job at any given time. If your employees feel that they are valued, respected, informed, and connected, they will be much more fulfilled and satisfied in their positions. It’s crucial that you nurture your relationships with loyal employees and new hires alike.

With a custom branded mobile app, your employees have access to real-time information that is spot-on and provides pertinent data on the go, right on their mobile phones. Coworkers can collaborate and share knowledge across departments, teams, and other channels to make sure that everyone in your organization has the same “single source for truth.”

When it comes to data and information, we have the quantity, but do we have quality? By 2025, it’s estimated that 463 exabytes of data will be created each day globally – that’s the equivalent of 212,765,957 DVDs per day. It’s time to take a step back from information for information’s sake, and take a hard look at which content really matters to your organization.

What if it were easy for your employees to collaborate, connect, and share content instantly?

With so much information floating around, we sometimes forget about the human component. We are all molded by our own stored memories, experiences, and individual journeys in life. A mobile app can be a repository for a wealth of content that has been acquired by your employees. We are all experts in something. And, we can all learn a lot from each other! Your employees are the glue that defines your business. Give your employees the platform to collaborate and collect with each other.

At CatalystXL, we want to help you quickly and easily share information and foster collaboration across your entire organization. We can deliver a custom branded mobile app that unlocks answers and provides insights via our Cardware platform – sharing categorized content in a powerful flashcard format. In short, flashcards provide bite-sized content for quick learning and the app allows people to collaborate and connect with one another.
